Hiking Destinations around Gastein
Rambling Routes for Beginners and Professionals
The Gastein Valley, along with the mountain world which surrounds it, is an ideal base for hikes of all kinds.
From relaxing walks for the whole family, to challenging high-peaks tours and fixed-rope alpine trails, there is something perfect here for each and every hiker.
Located within the communities of Bad Hofgastein, Bad Gastein, Dorfgastein, Sportgastein and Böckstein are the trailheads for countless hiking routes.
These trails lead to an array of rewarding hiking destinations, such as alpine huts and high pastures, tarns, mountain peaks and passes from where you can gaze out across the fascinating world of the Hohe Tauern mountains and the Gastein Valley itself.
For beginners or hikers planning a more relaxed tour, our beautifully situated alpine huts are particularly well-suited. The Böckfeldalm, located at 1538 metres above sea level, is a really special tip amongst the many hiking destinations. And the flora of the forest and alpine meadows is something quite unique.
Somewhat more experienced hikers can set their sights on the Arlspitze, also known as the Schuhflicker. The sunny ascent leads via the Heumoosalm, through a larch forest and up to the Arltörl. Once there, you have great views of the Grossarl Valley.
More athletic hikers who have plenty of alpine experience, may wish to tackle an ascent to the Laderdinger Gamskarspitzen, rising to 2413 m above sea level. To do so, you will require both good conditioning and knowledge of the local geography, especially as the trail is not marked in parts.
